TuffWrap Keeps a Bakery’s Production Facility Up and Running

Industrial Hybrid Walls protected a bakery’s adjacent production lines during demolition, allowing the facility to keep baking without interruption.

Renovating a working production facility is never simple. Unlike a construction project on an empty site, every decision has to account for what’s happening just a few feet away. In this case, food-grade production lines that couldn’t afford to shut down or risk contamination.

The Challenge

When a large commercial bakery set out to renovate part of its production area, the project scope created an immediate complication. The plan called for demolishing one of the facility’s existing production lines to make way for upgrades, work that would inevitably generate significant dust and airborne debris.

The problem wasn’t the demolition itself. It was everything around it. The bakery’s other production lines sat immediately adjacent to the work zone, and those lines needed to keep running throughout the renovation. In a food production environment, even small amounts of dust or debris migrating into an active line can compromise product safety, trigger costly cleaning procedures, or halt operations altogether. The facility needed a way to physically and reliably separate the demolition zone from the rest of the plant, without shutting down production or asking employees to work in a hazardous environment.

Adding to the challenge: whatever solution they chose had to hold up to real-world wear. The barrier would need to withstand daily forklift and vehicle traffic moving through the facility for the full duration of the renovation, not just survive a quiet corner untouched by activity.

The Solution

The bakery’s facility manager reached out to TuffWrap for help, and the team proposed a solution built around TuffWrap’s signature Industrial Hybrid Walls.

These temporary containment walls were installed to create a clear, physical boundary between the active demolition zone and the clean production areas nearby. Rather than relying on a single flexible barrier, the team reinforced the walls with 8-foot plywood panels, adding structural rigidity and impact resistance exactly where the barrier would face the most stress.

This combination gave the bakery the best of both approaches: the speed and adaptability of a temporary containment system, paired with the toughness of a semi-permanent structure. The result was a barrier that could contain dust and debris effectively while standing up to the daily demands of an active industrial facility.

The Outcome

The Industrial Hybrid Walls performed exactly as intended throughout the renovation. Employees on either side of the barrier were protected from dust and airborne contaminants, and the work zone remained clearly defined for the demolition crew.

Just as important, the walls held up under the wear and tear of daily vehicle traffic moving through the facility, requiring no mid-project repairs or replacements. The barrier remained fully intact and functional until the renovation was complete.

For the bakery operator, the project was a clear win: production continued uninterrupted, employees stayed safe, and the facility avoided the costly alternative of pausing operations during construction. It was a straightforward reminder that the right containment solution can turn a disruptive renovation into a manageable, well-contained project.
