Ask the Expert with Brett Johnson

TuffWrap’s, Brett Johnson, TuffWrap Canada Sales Manager, was recently interviewed during The Construction Canada’s “Ask the Expert” Segment on why it is important to choose professional-grade wall containment systems during construction. Why do General Contractors use temporary walls or hoarding during a construction project?

When GCs are working inside an operating factory, warehouse, or retail shop, they often need a containment system that does two things.

1. Protects the Client’s Production Area. This ensures the “clean” production zones are not contaminated by the dust and debris from the construction zones.

2. Supports the GC’s Safety Protocols. There are different safety requirements for construction zones than for regular industrial work zones. So, a temporary wall works as a clear delineation of the construction zone for the staff who work in the facility.

How do people and equipment get access through the walls? Are doors an option?

Yes. In fact, our Pocket Doors are a huge hit with both the GCs and their client. These doors roll easily to open and close. When they are closed, they create a tight seal against dust contamination. They can be large enough for forklifts and other equipment to pass from one side to the other.

Why are GCs moving away from having their own people building a “home-made” hoarding system and instead having a specialty company install a “professional-grade” system?

Many GCs are choosing to keep their staff focused on mission-critical tasks.  Building hoarding is NOT what they want them to struggle with. Using a company like TuffWrap gives the GC the assurance that they will have a custom wall that perfectly matches their needs and is strong, durable, anti-static, and anti-microbial. It can be built in a matter of hours and can stay in place for months.
