that is exactly what TuffWrap Installations President and Founder David Campbell did.

TuffWrap is Celebrating 25 Years of Protection on the Jobsite! Twenty-five years ago, Dave Campbell needed to solve a roofing contractor’s problem of keeping dust from contaminating a workspace while roofers worked above. Initially, the resolution was to hang a temporary ceiling using a polyethylene sheet suspended below the roof deck. The crew used the new temporary suspended ceiling below the rafters to capture the years of accumulated dust and debris that might drop from above during the reroofing project. It worked well, and with some fine-tuning, the suspended cover system started getting noticed. Dave’s ingenuity shaped the creation of TuffWrap’s signature suspended cover SmartSeam®.

TuffWrap Installations’ first interior protection project was completed in 1999 when it installed a suspended cover temporary ceiling for David/Randall Associates during the reroofing of the 40,000 sq. ft. picture frame manufacturer to keep the facility fully operational. SmartSeam® was re-engineered and tested to the highest standards. Today, SmartSeam® Suspended Cover and proprietary installation is the only IBC® Code Compliant and FM Approved System on the market. SmartSeam® Suspended Cover and installation method are specifically developed and approved for temporary interior protection installed beneath the automatic sprinklers to mitigate dust and debris. SmartSeam® meets International Building Code EC 043-2020; NFPA 13, ASTM E84 Class A; FM-4652; UL 723S compliance standards.

Over the last two and a half decades the company has completed approximately 15 thousand interior and exterior protection jobs and manufactured and installed an average of approximately 375 million square feet of protection.  Designed all in-house, we continue innovating new products while developing existing ones. We are adamant about product code compliance. TuffWrap works with IAPMO in setting code compliance standards for the industry. We continually adhere to these standards for our products to ensure safety and protect against liability.

The innovative approach that company Founder and President Dave Campbell used to create his first suspended cover system became the start of many more products born out of customers’ needs and TuffWrap innovations.

Solution/Product: TuffWrap SmartSeam Suspended Cover
Project Size: 23,000 square feet
Job Details:  The Nation’s Leading Public University’s Iconic Dome roof renovation was the most challenging and complex installation. The domed roof of Advanced Light Source (ALS) was replaced with a cool roof that reflects the sunlight back into the atmosphere. Extensive safety precautions were followed to protect workers and equipment, including closing the facility during the major project. The entire interior of the dome, which dates back to 1940, was covered with plastic sheeting to collect lead-based paint debris that might have fallen or scraped off during the roofing work. A total of 23,000 square feet of SmartSeam Suspended Cover panels were cut to size to protect the dome from the inside.

Project Size: Walls – 2,000 linear feet; SmartSeam – 8,500 square feet 
Job Details: When a disastrous fire started in a rice dryer, it burnt down part of a factory. The global breakfast cereal brand needed to separate the damaged portion of the factory from the intact factory. TuffWrap built C.O.R.E. Frameless Walls to isolate the damaged area of the factory. The temporary interior walls separated and contained the production zone, keeping the facility operational. In addition, a SmartSeam Suspended Cover was installed in the damaged portion to protect against further dust and debris contamination.

Project Size: 2,000 linear feet
Job Details: A leading helicopter manufacturer needed an interior protection solution to prevent and control localized dust, debris, and damage from the work zone from contaminating the rest of the facility.  TuffWrap installed 2,000 linear feet of C.O.R.E. Frameless Interior Walls to separate the staging area at the facility from the work zone. The temporary plastic interior walls, which are anti-static, antimicrobial, and flame-resistant, ensured the workspace was fully operational throughout renovations.

Project Size: 10×10 Door
Job Details: A global breakfast cereal manufacturer needed a temporary door in the waffle press room to isolate it from other areas within the facility. A large sliding pocket door installed by TuffWrap employees allowed access to the room without minimizing protection. Pocket Doors, used for frequent and long-term use, slide easily out of the way and into place.

Job Details: TuffWrap Installed EXT equipment door jambs for a worldwide manufacturer of auto parts. This protected extra protection to the walls when moving equipment in and out of the facility during construction.

Job Details: The fastest installation of a temporary ceiling was for a manufacturer of popular personal care and home care brands. The manufacturing facility needed protection for 112,000 square feet of reroofing over the production lines while it was closed during the New Year’s holiday. Necessary to complete the installation in 4 days, TuffWrap employees installed SmartSeam Suspended Cover in the lab areas of the facility.

Job Details: The dirtiest job for TuffWrap installers was at a large manufacturer of machine-made cigars and maker of pipe tobacco. TuffWrap employees installed 40,000 square feet of SmartSeam Suspended Cover below the roof deck to capture dust and debris that might drop during reroofing.

Job Details: Aloha! Hawaii was the furthest location TuffWrap installers traveled to. A multinational drink industry company that manufactures soda and other beverages needed a temporary ceiling for a Hawaii facility Freezer job. The most coveted location, TuffWrap installers completed approximately 20,000 square feet of SmartSeam Suspended Cover in six days.

Job Details: A multi-purpose convention center needed to remain open during construction. In addition, the attendees and employees needed protection while the facility remained functional. TuffWrap provided a solution for the specialized reroofing project that required a custom application using SmartSeam Suspended Cover and debris netting. 


The combination of SmartSeam and special netting prevented small particles and larger debris, such as pieces of roof decking falling from above, from contaminating the convention center during reroofing while protecting people and property.

Job Details: A global technology company needed exterior protection while constructing a GTN Data Center building.
