Cutting concrete in order to move heavy equipment threatened to contaminate active production. TuffWrap kept the dust on one side of the wall.

Moving equipment inside an active manufacturing facility is disruptive enough on its own — add concrete cutting to the mix, and the risk multiplies fast. When a large engine manufacturer needed to renovate part of its production area, the work required cutting concrete to reposition equipment, a process that throws off significant dust and debris. With ongoing projects running nearby, the facility couldn’t afford to let that contamination spread.

The project manager needed a way to keep the work moving forward without putting nearby production at risk.

The Challenge: Contain Dust from Concrete Cutting Without Stopping Nearby Work

Concrete cutting is one of the dustiest tasks on any job site and can cause serious health issues if inhaled. In an active manufacturing environment, that dust cannot be allowed to travel. The project manager needed a solution that could:

  • Physically separate the concrete-cutting work zone from ongoing production
  • Contain dust and debris generated by cutting as well as equipment transportation
  • Stand up to daily vehicle traffic for the length of the renovation
  • Go up quickly enough to avoid delaying the broader renovation schedule

The Solution: Industrial Hybrid Walls with Plywood Reinforcement

The project manager reached out to TuffWrap, and the team’s answer was a line of its signature Industrial Hybrid Walls. 600 linear feet of wall were installed to separate the work zone from the clean zone, keeping dust and debris from the concrete cutting contained on one side while production continued undisturbed on the other.

Because the area would see regular vehicle traffic throughout the renovation, TuffWrap reinforced the walls with 8′ plywood panels, adding the durability needed to withstand daily impact without compromising the barrier.

The Result: Renovations Moved Forward, Production Stayed Clean

Once the Industrial Hybrid Walls were in place, the facility had exactly what it needed: a contained work zone for the concrete cutting and equipment moves, and a clean, protected environment for everything happening around it. The reinforced walls held up to daily vehicle traffic without needing repairs or adjustments for the duration of the project.

The manufacturing client was thrilled with the outcome. The temporary solution kept employees protected and was durable enough to withstand daily vehicle traffic until renovations were complete.

Why This Matters for Manufacturing Facilities

Large equipment moves and transports often require work with concrete for the necessary foundations and ground support. However, concrete work always means dust. TuffWrap’s Industrial Hybrid Walls, reinforced for heavy daily use, give manufacturers a way to get the job done without putting nearby production, employees, or equipment at risk.
