A full renovation meant tearing employee spaces down.. TuffWrap kept the workforce protected without slowing the project down.

Renovating a facility is never as simple as picking a start date and getting to work — especially when real people still need to clock in, change, and take a break every day. When a snack food manufacturer decided to renovate and expand its facility, that was exactly the challenge presented. The plan called for a floor-to-ceiling overhaul of the employee locker rooms and break area, which meant demolition, dust, and debris in spaces employees relied on every single shift.

The facility couldn’t simply shut down these areas for the duration of the project. Employees still needed somewhere safe, clean, and comfortable to change and recharge. The facility manager needed a way to keep the workforce protected while construction crews tore the space apart just a few feet away.

The Challenge: Protect Employees Without Pausing the Renovation

In a food manufacturing environment, keeping people and products safe from dust and debris is essential. The renovation team needed a solution that could:

  • Create a safe, enclosed temporary space for employees during a full gut renovation
  • Block dust and debris from migrating into active employee areas
  • Hold up to daily foot traffic for the length of the project
  • Go up quickly, without adding delays to the renovation schedule

The Solution: Hybrid Frameless Walls with TuffPanel

The facility manager reached out to TuffWrap for help, and the team proposed a creative application of its signature Hybrid Frameless Walls. Rather than a single barrier, the walls were configured to build out temporary rooms and walkways, effectively re-creating safe employee areas and clear paths through the space while construction moved forward on the other side.

To stand up to daily wear, TuffWrap reinforced the walls with TuffPanel, adding durability and privacy the employees needed in a space they’d be relying on every day. The result was a temporary environment that felt purpose-built, not makeshift.

The Result: Employees Stayed Protected, Renovation Stayed on Track

Once the Hybrid Frameless Walls and TuffPanel were installed, the snack food facility had exactly what it needed: a dust- and debris-free environment for employees, separated from the ongoing renovation work. The temporary rooms and paths held up to daily foot traffic for the full length of the project, requiring no repairs or adjustments along the way.

The client was thrilled with the outcome. Employees stayed safe and comfortable, the renovation crew had the room to work without restriction, and the facility avoided the disruption of relocating staff spaces elsewhere.

Why This Matters for Food & Beverage Facilities

Renovation and expansion projects are a fact of life for growing food and beverage operations — but they can’t come at the expense of employee safety or daily operations. TuffWrap’s Hybrid Frameless Walls offer a flexible, durable way to carve out protected space wherever it’s needed, whether that’s a production line, a locker room, or a break area.
