Temporary Construction Enclosures to Isolate Dust, Debris, and Contamination

TuffWrap Total Enclosures create fully walled-off rooms for construction environments to isolate activity from the rest of the facility. By combining Frameless Walls™ with a SmartSeam ceiling, Total Enclosures section off dust-creating activities in facilities that cannot afford contamination, disruption, or downtime.

Understanding the solution

When Is a Full Temporary Enclosure Necessary?

A full temporary enclosure is needed when construction activity cannot be safely or effectively separated with walls or overhead protection alone.

In active facilities, dust, debris, and airborne contaminants rarely stay confined to one area unless the work zone is fully contained. Open ceilings, exposed sides, equipment pathways, and surrounding operations can all create opportunities for contaminants to move beyond the construction zone.

In these situations, partial containment can leave gaps that allow contaminants to migrate beyond the construction zone. Total enclosures, like those from TuffWrap, eliminate those vulnerabilities by creating a fully enclosed work environment.

A Total Enclosure may be the right solution when:

  • Construction is taking place near active operations
  • Dust migration cannot be tolerated
  • Sensitive products are being manufactured or stored
  • Equipment must remain operational during construction
  • Inventory requires protection
  • Regulatory or quality-control requirements exist
  • Airborne contaminants must be controlled
  • Facility shutdowns are not feasible

SIMPLE RULE OF THUMB FOR TOTAL ENCLOSURES

If the project only needs
vertical separation
A Frameless Wall™ may be enough
If the project only needs
overhead protection
A suspended cover may be enough
If dust, debris, or airborne contaminants need to be controlled from multiple directions
A Total Enclosure is the stronger solution

When We Recommend a Total Enclosure

  • The project needs a staging area for cleanup or equipment.
  • The project cannot 100% seal to the roof deck.
  • The project needs to isolate a walkway or aisle for egress.

BUILT FROM TUFFWRAP'S ENGINEERED CONTAINMENT SYSTEMS

Unlike improvised containment methods, TuffWrap Total Enclosures are built using engineered containment solutions specifically designed for active facilities. Each enclosure is custom designed using a combination of proven TuffWrap technologies.

  • SmartSeam® Suspended Cover Systems Provides overhead containment by creating a temporary ceiling beneath roofing, renovation, or overhead construction activities. This engineered suspended cover helps contain dust and debris while supporting code-compliant protection in active facilities.
  • Frameless Walls Provide durable vertical containment without the limitations of traditional temporary wall systems. The custom-fit design adapts to complex facility layouts while creating secure separation between work zones and occupied spaces.

HOW ENCLOSURES PROTECT ACTIVE FACILITIES

ENCLOSE THE CONSTRUCTION WORK AREA

In many projects, the goal is to isolate construction activities from surrounding operations. A Total Enclosure creates a sealed workspace around the active construction zone, helping contain dust, debris, and airborne contaminants before they can spread into production areas, warehouses, offices, retail spaces, or occupied environments. This approach allows work to proceed while minimizing disruption to ongoing facility operations.

ENCLOSE THE ASSET BEING PROTECTED

In other situations, protecting a specific asset is more important than enclosing the work itself. A Total Enclosure can be designed around:

  • Manufacturing equipment
  • Production lines
  • Inventory
  • Packaging operations
  • Pharmaceutical processes
  • Food production areas
  • Sensitive machinery
  • Critical facility infrastructure

By surrounding the asset rather than the construction activity, facilities can continue operating while nearby work is performed safely.

REQUEST A CUSTOM TOTAL ENCLOSURE PLAN

When temporary walls, dust barriers, or overhead protection alone are not enough, a TuffWrap Total Enclosure provides complete separation between construction activities and active facility operations.
